bore·dom/ˈbôrdəm/ noun

  1. the state of feeling bored.

bored /bôrd/ adjective

  1. feeling weary because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one’s current activity.

Traditionally speaking boredom is the emotional/physical state when an individual is left without anything to do, or at least that’s the thought. Their surroundings, seem dull, and unengaging, and often a tedious sense of anticipations begins to set in.

There is no one image for what boredom looks like, and as that’s the case there is no definitive example of boredom, but whatever it is researchers agree that it is not like depression or apathy. It instead is a very specific mental state that people find themselves in—a lack of stimulation that leaves them craving some sort of relief, stemming in a host of behavioral and medical social consequences. It’s because of this often unbearable craving boredom can be dangerous and disruptive to our health, however, research indicated without its existence we wouldn’t achieve our ability to create.
