After a long night of reverie and celebration it’s understandable to feel the impact of one’s over-consumption. Though this particular song is referring more to the emotional “waste” one experiences while going through a separation, I still believe its sentiment is appropriate to the situation. Its soft melodic rhythm isn’t painful to an aching head, the angelic harmonies blend into a semi-sarcastic melody of succumbing to the harder things in life; however avoidable they may sometimes be, living through them and having experience them, allow for growth—or so they say.

At the end of a relationship we find ourselves caught in cycles of remorse. We replay all the painful memories, and maybe give a cursory glance to the rest. We’ll often sit in contemplation pensively reflecting on how things could have gone differently, or what we may wish to have done differently.

The power of “what if.” I don’t know what a day feels like without at least one “what if.” Even if it’s as small as “what if I had eaten oatmeal as oppose to eggs,” the “what if” is still there, and the potential reality it can create still occupies my thoughts no matter how trivial it may seem. I suppose this is the obsessive nature of pensiveness, not being able to let go of even the smallest details sometimes, hoping against hope that if we replay the details perfectly in our head maybe we could find the perfect outcome. A wasted effort.

Lyrics:

Choking on a candle light
Mouths are burning teeth fall down
The outside needs a place to hide
Lock us in and breathe my faith

We are already wasted
We are throwing up our favourite words

Choking on a little lie
Wood is burning I wave bye bye
The outside needs a place to hide
As the smoke fills up my eyes

We are already wasted
We are throwing up our favourite words
Dress me up lets leave this world
Cause we´re so fucking wasted

Hit my nose on the handlebar
So we´ll walk like we used to do
Suck the love out of a cigarette
Let me laugh this one last time

We are already wasted
We are throwing up our favourite words
Dress me up lets leave this world
Cause we´re so fucking wasted
