The song begins on the introduction of two significant components: fire and gasoline. Her lover has the gasoline, and she has the fire, together the following is a result of the passion shared between the two. Individually they may be a little more lackluster, but together the two share an explosive experience. This drives the singer to want to give further into the feeling, however realizing ultimately that this particular coupling is doomed to be relegated to limited experiences as opposed to a more intimate relationship.
She may yearn for her lover, to have something more than a physical relationship. She attempts to try and convince her lover that they could be something more together. However, this futile attempt is quickly rebuffed, and she reassures her paramour that she understands the nature of their situation.
It’s interesting to see what different forms of passion manifest into. Whether this is the retelling of a personal anecdote or even something that was relayed to them it still is a story of not fully-requited lover resulting in a passionate exchange. Then when you think about how it exists now as a beautiful piece of music which has been created by other artists passion, it forces me to really take in the importance of how even in the more somber shades of positive emotions like passion we can still take much from it.
Lyrics:
There’s gasoline in your heart
There’s fire in mine
I know I’m never gonna light you
But there’s always night time
[Verse 2]
There’s a light I’ve found in your eyes
That I’ve never found in mine
I know I…I could never ever show you
But there’s always night time
[Chorus]
(Knowing…)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time
(Knowing…)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time (Hey…)
(Knowing…)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
[Verse 3]
There’s gasoline in your heart
I could have your fire
I know that this is momentary
Imagine it’s night time
[Chorus]
(Knowing…)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time
(Knowing…)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time (Hey…)
(Knowing…)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
[Bridge]
Can you feel?
Can you feel?
I wish it wasn’t just the night time (Hey…)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time (Hey…)
I wish it wasn’t just the ni-i-i-ight time
[Outro]
(Knowing no one to someone)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time (Hey, hey!)
(Knowing no one to someone)
I wish it wasn’t just the night time (Hey, hey!)
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah (Hey hey!)
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah
