Alaska in Winter has shown up a few times so far, and though the music has tended to lend itself to a more somber and sadder state, this particular song has always stood out to me, as one that was a little more impassioned. Where most Alaska in Winter songs occupies a colder emotional space, there is a warmth associated with this particular track.

The lyrics still are not the most positive, but the ferocity that is being conveyed is where the sentiment of passion truly resides. Passion at its core is an emotion of pure unadulterated response. Though the main lyrics being heard are “I cannot see hope in your eye,” they are being delivered and packaged in a way that is translated as passion.

There is a sense of resilience in the voice of Brandon Bethancourt, founder and sole contributor to Alaska in Winter. This resilience always translated as hope for himself, though the person he may be singing about may have lost the hope, it’s something that he can still establish within himself, to whatever degree it’s still present, and decide to continue moving forward on his own. I may be far off the mark with this one, especially since Brandon has said how none of his music was particularly optimistic, and to go as far as to wish he had never made for the measure of sadness it has contributed too.

Passion is unusual in that it can be felt even when the byproduct may be something less than positive. The energy, effort, and emotional strength can be felt. This is an energetic exchange many would pass along as being nothing more than a “hooby-scooby” response, but it’s there. This is how art can stop us dead in our tracks, and way of evaluating another person’s passion. In this instance, passion for a desire to convey the sentiment is definitely prevalent a living strong.

Lyrics:
I cannot see hope in your eyes
you look to hope in the sky,
but I can’t see hope in your eyes
you look for love in the sky,
but I can’t see hope in your eyes
you look to hope in the sky,
but I can’t see hope in your eyes
you look for love in the sky,
but I can’t see hope in your eyes
You are my love
You are my love
