KJZZ Partners with AARP Arizona for
“The State of Aging in the Valley”
Phoenix – KJZZ, 91.5 FM, is partnering with AARP Arizona on a month-long series of reports focusing on issues surrounding aging. Arizona has long been a destination for older Americans with its pristine retirement communities, but aging in America isn’t what it used to be. It’s expensive and can be isolating–KJZZ’s Kathy Ritchie has been investigating the nuances related to aging, especially here in the Valley.
The Aging in the Valley series covers issues that are paramount to many Arizona residents. Topics include resources for a growing number of male caregivers, cultural aspects related to aging, and housing complications. It also highlights a new program that’s helping people with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) learn new skills.
“We are proud sponsors of the State of Aging in the Valley because it truly gives a voice to complexity of aging issues. AARP is dedicated to changing the age perceptions; we believe in owning our age. We need to get to the point where we’re no longer defined by the old expectations of what we should or should not do at a certain age. We applaud KJZZ for diving deep into aging in the valley and being disrupters of aging. Disruptive aging begins with each of us embracing our own aging — feeling good about where we are in life,” said Dana Marie Kennedy AARP Arizona State Director.
The aging issue isn’t going away, and KJZZ is talking about it. Join KJZZ for the State of Aging in the Valley on 91.5 FM. You can also follow the series at https://kjzz.org/aging/. Contributors to the series include KJZZ staff members, Kathy Ritchie, Carrie Jung, Matthew Casey, Rodrigo Cervantes, Annika Cline, Christina Estes, Stina Sieg, and Will Stone.
