Upon first listen, there may not seem to be anything especially surprising or different about this specific piece of music. Perhaps it’s just a well-produced soundtrack or something similar? In fact, the music and the artists performing are doing so while submerged within the water.
Through the creation of specially designed instruments, as well as the thorough mastery of holding one’s breath Danish band AquaSonic have become the world’s first submerged musical ensemble.
As the story goes, the band’s lead singer and composer Laila Skovmand wanted to discover a way to sing underwater. Through continuous trial and error, she finally devolved a technique of manipulating air bubbles and singing through them. I can’t begin to understand that on a technical level, so I will not even begin entertaining trying to explain it. I will only note that she’s said to be able to use and reuse the air bubble for approximately a minute at a time, in which she’s forced to come up and refresh her oxygen as well as the air bubbles.
When learning about these artists, I thought it was an over the top theatrical experiment—and who knows it still might be—but that really doesn’t dismiss the impressive and surprising feats they have had to accomplish to establish a working rhythm and produce continuous music.

No lyrics, just beautiful music.
