When the Sun burns out, and the world stops spinning, that’s when the world ends—at times we may feel like the world is ending, or that our society is ending…and maybe it is, but that doesn’t mean that The World is ending. Fortunately, we will all be long gone when that happens.

This eventuality creates an “at least” statement: “everything feels wrong, but at least I won’t have to see the literal meltdown of the world.” A drastic analogy, I know, but this is necessarily the thought presented in Mammut’s The Moon Will Never Turn On Me. When we are without power, we resort in creating ways of diminishing the impact we may be experiencing. This act seems to lessen the frustrations we experience in the act of submission. This is a very human response—when we are without power, we will often cling to any strength we can latch on to.

I believe this action also serves a great purpose; though it may not be the healthiest response, it does allow us to persevere at those points we feel unable to do so. “Better than,” or “at least” statements may be looking at the proverbial glass as being half empty; however it is at the very least acknowledging the glass, and that’s a significant step in responding to submission.

Lyrics:

If one must live then one must die
Oh the truth must be funnier than this
Visions in my mind remind me of what could go wrong
That I’m afraid to die, afraid to die, afraid to die

But it’s ok

I draw the curtains up to watch the dust play around the room
And it plays with me and it plays me
I felt it was the day that all life’s charm would run away
But it’s ok

I won’t see the sun collapse
I won’t see the stars decay
And the moon will never turn on me
So all is ok

I want to make this right but I don’t feel right
Cause sometimes life tries to eat us up
But then I take a look around and see how dust turns into gold
And I embrace this world, embrace the world, embrace the world
And I love it all

I won’t see the sun collapse
I won’t see the stars decay
And the moon will never turn on me
So all is ok

Oh yes we could drown
Feel the heat from the life all around
Let us breathe
The moon will never turn on me
I won’t see the stars decay
I won’t see the sun collapse
So all is ok

All is ok
