Tycho’s entire discography could be labeled as serene. It is the perfect summer music, encapsulating what I imagine a wave would sound like if it could comprise its own music.

I find Tycho’s version of Post-Rock to be some of the most soothing and comforting sounds to be introduced into the genre. Their music and its grand soundscapes have rarely not found their place in aiding in whatever moment they’re being played.

On a day like today, one in which most people (at least those fortunate enough not to be working,) are still reeling and recovering from the last few days of holiday festivities. The couches and sweatpants all over the nation are beginning to feel the strain of the holiday feasts, and yet I suppose this is where the “jolly” side of the season comes from.

This song in particular, Awake, seems especially fitting. Waking on the day after a major holiday it almost feels like waking after a stupor. Half of the memories you have from the previous event are the amalgamation of drunken dreams and memories of holidays from years past.

Hopefully there’s some board games, or movies on the agenda of many, at the very least a moment where nothing matters, and everything is resting. This resting state is where I often find my serenity. The point at which laziness and contentment meet. Acknowledgment of the moment and its grandeur is how we’re able to stay within the confines of serenity.

Lyrics:

No Lyrics… just serene melodic rhythms.
